According to a couple of reports, the foldable iPhone could make a debut as early as next year…

Attention Appleheads!

If reports are to be believed, two foldable iPhones are in the pipeline, with one of them making a debut as early as 2026.

Rumours about a foldable iPhone have been doing the rounds for ages now but according to two credible sources, the rumours are set to become a reality real soon.

The Wall Street Journal Report

According to a recent report in the Wall Street Journal, Apple is planning two foldable devices. The larger one is “intended to serve as a laptop” and could have a display that unfolds to 19 inches diagonally.

The second device will be smaller in comparison but is still set to have an impressive size. The report claims that when fully unfolded, the smaller version would have a display bigger than the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

The report also mentions that Apple has been experimenting heavily with various sizes and models before settling on these two designs. Though there are yet several technical glitches to overcome, Apple is hopeful that the smaller version could hit the market in 2026.

The report also added that the foldable laptop/tablet is set to follow the smaller device and could possibly make a debut in 2027.

The Bloomberg Report

Around the same time as the WSJ report, there was also a report in Bloomberg by Apple expert Mark Gurman. While his report also claimed that two foldable iPhones were in the works, there were some contrasting details compared to the WSJ article.

According to Gurman, the larger foldable device is more likely to be “akin to a giant iPad” (instead of an all-screen MacBook) and would likely run iPadOS. He also claims that this device “is coming to market around 2028.”

One similarity that the two reports have in common is the possible launch year of the smaller foldable device. Gurman also said Apple is looking into launching the foldable iPhone, which might come in 2026 “at the earliest.”

Other Details from the Reports

The WSJ report also made a mention if a super thin iPhone.

This is another speculation that has been doing the rounds for years now with Appleheads believing that the device would be called iPhone Air.

The article claims that this device could also be launched next year. There aren’t too many details available about this device except that it would be thinner than the current models and would come with a simplified camera. There is also a rumour that to achieve the level of sleekness that they target, Apple may have to omit Face ID in favour of integrating a Touch ID in the power button.

The report also suggest that it would be priced “cheaper than the Pro models.”

The Last Word

While this is indeed exciting news, the rumoured price of the foldable device might just dampen the enthusiasm. It is believed that the base version would cost approximately $2,300 (around Rs 1,97,000).

That is almost twice the $1,199 starting price of the iPhone 16 Pro Max!

Well, one cannot say they’re surprised by the price tag. Apple products do cost that much. So, if you’re planning to get your hands on a foldable iPhone whenever it comes out, you better start saving right away!
