With AI leading the charge, technological advancements are fundamentally transforming modern warfare for India …
Technology is transforming the global landscape and the defence sector is no exception. As far as India is concerned, a defense tech company called Ammunic Systems is integrating AI and robotics to take the country’s military operations to the next level.
Founded in 2019 by Priyanka Singhal, Ammunic has gone from a college project to one of the biggest players in India’s defense technology. It has already secured partnerships with the Indian Army as well as the Indian navy.
Bridging Tech Innovation & Defense Needs
It all started with Singhal’s internship at the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO). Soon after, she started Ammunic Systems with a vision of developing high-precision munitions and advanced electronic fuses.
The company soon began to gain transaction and fast forward to 2023, it secured its first major order and after successful trials with the Indian Army and Navy. Thanks to Singhal’s commitment, Ammunic has a reputation for reliability.
Talking about the deal, Priyanka said: “”My exposure to blast effects and defence technology during that time inspired me to focus on the defence sector. Initially, we approached the field pragmatically due to the financial challenges of R&D. We started with a college project and gradually moved into developing munitions and electronic fuses. After successful demonstrations and live trials with the Army and Navy, we secured significant orders and expanded our operations.”
How Precision Technology is changing the Game
From GPS-enabled weaponry to autonomous systems, technology has redefined effectiveness when it comes to live combat. And Ammunic Systems is harnessing AI’s precision technology to improve combat accuracy.
They are developing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to deploy for precision strikes, surveillance and patrol missions along the country’s borders. The rise of autonomous land, aerial and underwater vehicles has drastically reduced human risk while maximizing military precision at the same time.
Enhancing Efficiency with Robotics and Autonomous Systems (RAS)
Another major focus area in modern warfare is robotics. Ammunic Systems is playing a huge part in this sector as well with the development of exoskeletons and autonomous vehicles. Exoskeletons increase the strength and endurance of soldiers, and aid in making demanding missions a little more manageable. Autonomous systems can take on dangerous tasks like mine clearance, search and rescue and logistical support which greatly helps in reducing the risks to personnel.
Talking about Robotics, Priyanka said: “Robotics and autonomous systems are pivotal in modern warfare. In complex scenarios, such as the Balakot operation, advanced unmanned systems could have improved effectiveness and reduced casualties. These systems allow for more precise operations and can adapt to changing conditions in real-time.”
Advanced Munitions for Modern Defense
Another area of expertise for Ammunic is advanced warheads and networked land mines. The company’s innovations offer enhanced explosive power and area coverage. Their thermobaric explosives and electromechanical fuses come equipped with proximity sensors. These improve precision, safety and adaptability to varied conditions.
The evolution of Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUVs) and Armed Unmanned Ground Vehicles (AUGVs) is revolutionising naval and ground operations, providing enhanced versatility while reducing human risk. These systems have become really accurate, precise, lethal and operation-specific.
AI, Ethics and the Future of Indian Warfare
Even as AI enhances munitions and precision targeting, Ammunic is also concerned about addressing the ethical side of things. While AI-driven systems can optimize operations, it also brings up questions about responsible usage and humanitarian standards.
Singhal touched upon ethics as well: “Ethics and international regulations must guide the development and deployment of autonomous and AI-powered systems. Ensuring that these technologies are used responsibly and in compliance with humanitarian standards is crucial.”
The Last Word
In just five years since its inception, Ammunic Systems has redefined the role of technology in India’s defense evolution. Through AI, robotics and innovative munitions, the company is heralding India’s
military capabilities and setting the foundation for a future that is defined by precision, efficiency and ethical responsibility.
As warfare technology progresses, Ammunic’s innovations will play an integral part in helping India secure a place in next-generation defense strategies.
