The new Solos AirGo Vision that lets you asks questions about people and places you’re looking at through the glasses.
Remember how Tony Stark used to talk to Jarvis and identify things he was looking at through his visor? Well, going by the latest updates in eyewear technology, that future might not be too far away.
Launched as a rival to Ray Ban’s Meta Glasses, Solos has unveiled their AirGo Visions 3 which comes integrated with OpenAI’s latest GPT-4o model.
How It Works
The AirGo Vision comes integrated with ChatGPT so it can be used to generate information about whatever the wearer is looking at. You can ask questions like “What am I looking at?” or “Give me directions to the Gateway of India!”. It is also compatible with other popular AI models as well such as Gemini and Claude.
The AirGo comes with a built-in camera with swappable frames. The camera is part of the arm and not the frame so you can detach it if you don’t want to wear the camera. But even if you remove it, the smart glasses will still offer AI-powered functionalities through the audio output.
While the AirGo Vision can take photos, it does not have a video recording feature.
What’s Different About It
Talking about usage and power consumption, Solos has made a bold claim that the smart glasses can be used through the day and that they are the most power efficient ones available in the market currently.
The glasses have built-in LED notifications on the frame which can be modified to sound or vibration depending on the user’s surrounding. If he or she is in a quiet location like an office meeting, a discreet flash will act as an alert without any sound or vibration. But if it is in a loud setting and a sound might not be heard, then the user will be alerted by the LED light.
How Much It Will Cost
LED-only frames will be available at the end of July 2024 on the company’s website in three different styles starting at $249.99 (₹20,840 approximately). Though there is no confirmed released date, it is believed that the Solos AirGo Vision will be available later this year.
As it has a modular frame design, some of the parts like camera and lenses can be changed. These additional frames start at $89 (₹7,433 approximately).
The Last Word
For a long time now, futuristic movies have been showing glasses and visors powered with AI technology. Iron Man only debuted on the big screen in 2008 but Tom Cruise’s character Ethan Hunt wore it in the first installment of Mission Impossible in 1996.
In all likelihood, the Solos Vision will be the first real version of such eyewear and in the years to come, this technology will see a lot of further research and development.
