New Delhi: Sunil Gavaskar said on Sunday that it was a 'tired mind' which may have influenced Anil Kumble's decision to retire from Tests on Sunday and that the great leg-spinner will be sorely missed.
"He will be missed very badly in the Indian team. I think, more than the body it's the mind which tells you (the time to go). Body sends you the signals but it's the mind which tells you. May be his mind was a bit tired," Gavaskar said.

Gavaskar also felt that time was ripe for Kumble to hand over the responsibility of leg-spin bowling to young Amit Mishra.
"He was struggling to beat the bat and he has left with no regrets. He has passed on the mantle to Amit Mishra and would have no regrets," he told CNN-IBN.
Noted columnist and former county player Peter Roebuck also said that perhaps the time had come to hand over the reins of the Test team to Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who was ready for the job.
"He knows that Dhoni is prepared to take over. What a good time to go," he said.

Roebuck hailed Kumble's hunger for success.
"He played with dignity and departed with dignity. I am happy that he went on his own terms. He got better and better and never stopped from getting better.
