Force India will focus on developing its 2009 package rather than progressing its current car, team chairman Vijay Mallya said.

Mallya said an upgrade to the gearbox at the upcoming Hungarian Grand Prix would be the last improvement to its F1 car before next season becomes the priority.

"Now we will concentrate on the 2009 car," Mallya said at the German GP. "We have at least shown to ourselves and our fans in India that we have improved (this season). "

The team has hired more staff and will increase its budget for 2009, while Mallya believes next year's rule changes – when new technology and a budget cap come into play – will also benefit the Indian team.

Mallya also announced that construction of the race track for a possible 2010 Indian GP would begin outside New Delhi on Oct. 1.

Mallya was still pleased with his team's performance over a point-less rookie season.

"We're giving it all we can. When you have to compete with teams with significantly higher budgets and mass resources, you have to step it up or you won't get anywhere," he said.
