During Pakistan's tour to India in 1979-80, Sunil Gavaskar relinquished the captaincy to his brother-in-law Gundappa Viswanath, as he was not available for India's imminent tour of West Indies, which was subsequently cancelled. Viswanath thus made his debut as Indian captain in the last test at Kolkata. As many as 33 matches out of 47 tests between India and Pakistan ended in a drawn affairs which constitutes a high percentage of 70. 21.
