Woodstock returns!
By Subhash K Jha
Monday, 19 July , 2004, 17:06

Hello? Was this some kind of a joke? Choreographer Farah Khan and dress designer Raghu Rathore together, chatting it up with Simone Singh on CNBC's The lounge.

Great pair, huh? Except that Farah had nevet met her interviewing partner before! "We were introduced on the sets minutes before shooting."

Bizarre, to say the least. Many people in and out of the industry presumed the two of them were seeing each other. Why else would they be partnering one another on a chat show, like Farhan Akhtar and his wife on Rendezvous With Simi Garewal on Sunday? But then that's Indian television for you.

With due apologies to the brains behind this bizarre babble-plan, I must say Farah conducted herself with habitual ease, rattling off anecdotes, shooting out quips as though they were going out of fashion.

And the fashion guru just smiled through Farah's scene-stealing act on The Lounge. Incidentally Farah was offered the chance to appear on Sony's Yeh Meri Life Hai. She said no. But apparently the channel is roping in every showbiz celeb from Karan Johar to Babydoll to make an appearance on Jassi and Yeh Meri Life Hai.

Last week it was the Kabhi aar kabhi paar girl on Yeh Meri Life Hai. She danced in the rain as the whole congregation of youngsters cheered as though they had just gone back to Woodstock. While the protagonist Pooja smiled nervously her host's brother planned to sneak her off and do unmentionable things with the pure and innocent lady (no chick, this Pooja of ours).

Problem here is one of moral perception. On one end the episodes with their massive look-who's-coming buildup endorsed the 'Babydoll' sub-culture of mix-'n'-mate teenage fun-fests. On the other end the soap wagged a forbidding finger at nice girls who try and be bold to attend parties thrown by spoilt children of depraved millionaires.

So hey guys, help me out here. Is Babydoll evil or not? I'm totally confused. As confused as I was while watching Ashmit Patel give us style tips on MTV with a veejay who insisted on plonking herself in bed with Patel. Both of them had their shoes on, in case they needed to bolt out of bed to watch Badydoll on televison.

Then when the giggly veejay called Patel, metro-sexual he quickly added he was also hetero-sexual. Got that? Then he took us to his wardrobe to show his underwears and teeshirts. My life would've been quite complete without this crude-`darshan`. But there was more to come. Next Mr Patel threw a quiz at us. Who has the best body in Bollywood? Sanjay Dutt, Salman Khan or, ahem ahem, Ashmit Patel.

Hello hello? Joke `mara`? `Nahin` dead serious. And the one who gave the 'right' answer got a teeshirt from Ashmit. Damn. I wish I had replied. Badly needed that Ashmit teeshirt to show off my muscles.

On the opposite end was Tusshar Kapoor…sorry Vishnu Prasad. He appeared as the character he plays in the film on Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. …which was very much proper to the medium considering the actor is known by the name of the character he or she plays.
