You are in a hurry. You are already late for the party by 30 minutes. And you are working on your hair for the 'N'th time. Doing up your hair can give you a heartache especially if it's wet, the dryer doesn't work and your friend who offered to pick you up from home is already at his wits' end. Here's a list of do's and don'ts to avoid bad hair days.
1. Avoid overexposure to shampoos. Don't experiment with all shampoos available. Find one most suited to your hair's texture.
2. Wear a scarf when travelling, especially through dusty roads. It is also a safe guard against the harsh sun.
3. Avoid travelling with oily hair. Oil causes dirt and dust to cling to hair strands, making it lose its lusture.
4. Drink lots of water and milk. Milk supplies vital proteins which help build the keratin that makes your hair shine.
5. Never comb wet hair. It causes hair strands to break. Remember wet hair is weak hair.
6. When detangling hair, carefully work from the ends of the hair up towards the roots. Work in small sections and carefully hold the section of hair you are detangling with your fingers to avoid pulling, unnecessary pressure or tearing on the wet hair.
7. A weekly massage with olive oil helps. Massage in warm (not hot) olive oil. Allow a few hours beore shampooing.
8. Use hair conditioner at least once a fortnight. A natural conditioner is curd. After shampooing and rinsing, let the conditioner stay for at least four to five minutes before washing it off.
9. Avoid blow drying hair whenever possible. If really necessary, then use the cold-blow and not the warm-blow option.
10. Use hairspray and other styling products sparingly. Remember to shampoo off hairspray and other products like mousse, gel, etc as soon as possible.
11. Avoid frequent hair colouring, perms and chemical straightening. Too much chemical build-up is also potentially harmful.
12. Braid your hair or at least tie it up when sleeping at night. You can avoid unnecessay tangles and knots that way.
13. Trim hair regularly to avoid split ends.
