Blowing hot and cold - that might well have been the theme of Payal Jain’s debut prêt ‘Ado’. There was a definite mix of masculine and feminine influences in all the creations that comprised this collection.
She worked largely with the classic red, white and black colour combination in eclectic fabrics like Scottish tartans, mesh, tweeds, faux fur, faux leather and even corduroy.
These otherwise subtle fabrics were transformed into edgy club-wear by embellishing them with metal trims and accessories. Silver metal eyelets in varying sizes, zippers, buckles and studs were used effectively, evoking memories of London’s punks in the 1970’s.
On the whole, Payal’s collection was a mix of very wearable separates like pleated miniskirts, pants, bomber jackets, boiler suits, and bustiers, all of which were very young, fit and sexy. The theme was carried forth in a parallel colour-way, which used green/black and white instead.
An unexpected but truly delightful turn to this line was the Eskimo-inspired collection in chic whites and ivories. There was a creative use of knits like waffles, meshes and ribs with wovens, and was embellished with funky silver eyelets. Pants, one-piece tunic dresses, skirts and blouses were part of the range.
An inspiring mix of the hot and the cool! India Syndicate
