The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is hosting a workshop to discuss water resource management, WAM news agency reported Monday.
The Arab Water Academy is co-sponsoring the workshop with NASA Goddard Space Flight Center and USAID.
The NASA Goddard Space Flight Center will use its experience in developing space and Earth science data information centres to develop a Land Data Assimilation System (LDAS) for the Arab region.
The LDAS will be based on NASA satellite data, surface observations from Arab countries, and publicly-available meteorological analyses.
With funding from the USAID Office of Middle-East Programs, the Center will use state-of-the-art technology and space-based remote sensing techniques to collect accurate water data which can easily be represented as maps and graphs for easier interpretation.
The Arab Water Academy (AWA), based in the Environment Agency-Abu Dhabi's (EAD) headquarters in Abu Dhabi aims at addressing the region's water resource management challenges.
