Colombo: At least three people, including two members of the LTTE breakaway faction, were killed in a suicide attack carried out by suspected Tamil Tigers in the restive eastern region of Sri Lanka on Sunday.
Apart from the bomber, two members of the breakaway Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal (TMVP) faction of LTTE, identified as Regan and Suddha, were killed in the blast at Kalavanchchikudi in Batticaloa, TMVP spokesperson Asad Mawulana.
They were on a motorcycle campaigning for the forthcoming local elections when they were killed in the attack, he said.

Mawulana said that according to reports received by him the two TMVP members had stopped at the area to inquire about a person who was moving around in a suspicious manner.
Fearing, he would be caught, the suspect immediately detonated himself killing the fast approaching TMVP members and himself, he said.
Meanwhile, defence sources said they suspected this might have been an LTTE attempt to disrupt the normalcy in the area and cause confusion on the eve of the forthcoming elections in the eastern district.
