New Delhi: Practising austerity, CongressPresident Sonia Gandhi will travel the economy class whileflying to Mumbai on Monday.
Party sources said Gandhi, who is also the UPAchairperson, will be taking the economy class when she goes toMumbai for a party function.
Gandhi had been instrumental in launching an austeritydrive in the party in the wake of drought in various partsof the country.
The drive has also gained momentum in the Governmentwith several ministers flying the economy class.
On Sunday, External Affairs Minister S M Krishnaannounced that he will not take private aircraft and travel oncommercial flights for his overseas trips while his colleagueSharad Pawar after some initial resistance flew economy classin a private airline.
Krishna has decided to forgo travel by private aircraftwhich he is entitled to use on visits abroad and said he willtravel economy class commercial flights.
Pawar said his party was now buying air tickets for himand not the government following the announcement of the codeof conduct for the Maharashtra Assembly elections.
