New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Rajnath Singh alleged on Thursday that Pragya Singh Thakur, a Hindu ascetic arrested for the Malegaon bombing, was being tortured.

Speaking to reporters at the BJP office here, he said the government's crackdown on the Sadhvi and her associates for the bomb attack that killed six people had infuriated the Hindu community.

Sadhvi not subjected to multiple narco tests: ATS

“We have never made 'Islamic terrorism' an election issue. But in the name of 'Hindu terrorism', the government is defaming Hindu organisations,” he said, referring to the arrests of several suspects in the wake of the investigations into the Malegaon attack.

He said the Congress-led government was going after Hindu activists to divert people's attention from more pressing issues such as inflation.

Sadhvi's arrest, a political conspiracy: BJP

“Sadhvi is being tortured (in police custody),” he said, describing the BJP as a party of “strong nationalists”. Rajnath Singh also said that the BJP had no intention of making Hindutva an election agenda. “Hindutva is a way of life,” he said.
