Colombo: Slain LTTE supremo Velupillai Prabhakaran's father, now lodged in a welfare camp in the north, served in the Sri Lankan government for 39 years beginning his career as a clerk.
According to details of his pension file, Thiruvengadam Velupillai joined the government service on February 1, 1943 and retired on January 21, 1982, completing 39 years without accepting extension of service at 58 years.
His first appointment was as a clerk at the Ceylon Government Railways, Director General of Pensions H A Thilakaratne said on Wednesday, providing the details of his file to the media.
He received several promotions ending up as Land Officer of the Land Settlement Department, the State Owned Daily News reported.
Thiruvengadam married Vallipuram Parupathipillai (born on August 7, 1931) and had two sons and a daughter.
