One dead, 50 injured in Bihar train accident

2009-10-08 09:30:00

A passenger was killed and at least 50 injured when the Amritsar-Katihar Amarpali Express express train derailed in Bihar, police said Thursday.

The engine and seven bogies of the train derailed late Wednesday between the Pasraha and Gauchari railway stations near Naugachia, about 160 km from here.

Railway sources said the accident took place because the track had caved in following incessant rain for 24 hours.

The dead passenger was identified as Puran Singh of Purnia district.

Train services on the Barauni-Katihar divison were paralysed due to the accident.

Additional Director General of Police Neelmani said the Government Railway Police escort party rescued the driver and dozens of passengers from the derailed bogies.

Railway officials and a medical relief team have reached the site of the accident.

I am from the narayanpur village near thana bihpur. I recently went to the village for chhatth puja. What i have learnt about accident rescue operation fromthe villagers is horrible. The police rescue team beat up the injured passengers to death in order to save money for treatment. And 22 days still the major trains run on solitary track. And run late by as much as 6 hours!

One passenger was killed and several others injured, including three seriously, when an engine and three bogies of the "Amrapali Express" got derailed near Naugachia in Bhagalpur district, on Thursday. UNION RLY. MINISTER IS DOING QUITE A GOOD WORK IN THE RAILWAYS SECTOR - SHE SHOULD ALSO SIMULTANEOUSLY CONCENTRATE ON PROPER & REGULAR MAINTENANCE / MONITORING OF RAILWAY TRACKS TO EVADE ANY SUCH UNFORTUNATE ACCIDENTS IN FUTURE. We are sure, she would do so in the interest of the people.
