i support NO CHILD LABOR but if it's a choice between starvation and work, then so be it. "CHILD LABOR" is a subjective term. Giving a child support and an oppurtunity to get food in his belly, maybe shelter over his head, is better than letting him beg. A blanket ban may do more harm than good to these innocent victims of fate.

It is nice to see the government taking action against the serial producers. Child labour in any form has to be abolished. But, more important than this is to protect the children from hazardous job that pose a threat to their lives. Still, it is a good move by the government.

By propogating this message what has been achieved? Jobless children. What option do they have? Go the wrong way. Instead think of improving the work conditions. At least they will have food to feed the stomach. Mindless adoption of such philosophy will only damage the social chord. Kashmiri Carpet weaving can be learnt only when aged below 5. It our culture that is being destroyed in the name of child labour. We have already lost Dhaka's famous ''malmal'' saree passing thru a ring. When kids are trained for olympics at the age of 5 - is it not child labor? Are they not tortured to do more than they can? How come we have tennis stars and olympians at less than 17 years of age? Think food for childern losing jobs before action.

What about the venerable Dhirubhai? Not even Matric, worked his way to an Empire! Hwther children should work or attend school, it is a result of the circumstances & cannot be generalised. OK, children should not be exploited. But if they are getting an opportunity, which is better than what a formal education will offer, why not?

Yes. Child labour, even in glamorous form, remains child labour. Children and the serials are not sensitively handled, as such they have bad impact on children. Moreover, parents become greedy and ambitious that leads to child exploitation. the ban should come also in advertisements using children. Of course, careful guidelines can provide for exceptions. But on the whole, yes, maha govt is right.
