| Kofi Annan's tenure as Secretary-General
of the UN ends on December 31, 2006 and the names of some of
the candidates to the coveted post have already been out. The
candidates include Ban Ki-moon of South Korea, Jayantha Dhanapala
of Sri Lanka and Surakiart Sathirathai of Thailand. On the basis
of the rotational practice of selection, it is the turn for
Asia to have a Secretary-General and so the selection process
has become all the more interesting. Let's see how the Secretary-General
