The nearly three decades of reign of terror unleashed by notorious sandalwood smuggler, Veerappan, responsible for the killing of over 150 persons and more than 2,000 elephants, came to an end on Monday night when the Special Task Force police personnel killed him and three of his associates in an encounter in Papparapatti village in Dharmapuri district of Tamil Nadu.
