Mughal warlord Afzal Khan was slain by Chhatrapati Shivaji 350 years ago. But Vishwa Hindu Parishad activists hope they can whip up a controversy over his tomb ahead of the Maharashtra elections. The VHP and the Bajrang Dal have alleged that the area around the tomb has been illegally occupied and built upon by the Hazrat Mohammed Afzal Khan Memorial Society, a local trust managing the property.
