Sify is committed to the cause of protecting the environment around us and to take part in effective ways to raise awareness levels, especially amongst the youth.
Sify’s support to the Earth Hour campaign was a success in March this year. Now, on the occasion of the World Environment Day on June 5, 2008 Sify endeavors to raise the awareness of being sensitive to environment among our fellow citizens.
The United Nations General Assembly established world Environment Day in 1972 to mark the opening of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment. Another resolution, adopted by the General Assembly the same day, led to the creation of United Nation Environment Programme (UNEP). The World Environment Day slogan for 2008 is Kick the Habit! Towards a Low Carbon Economy . The World Environment Day will highlight resources and initiatives that promote low carbon economies and life-styles, such as improved energy efficiency, alternative energy sources, forest conservation and eco-friendly consumption.
Radio campaign for awareness
Sify has tied up with the radio channel Big FM for a 4-day awareness campaign staring June 2, 2008 across the top 6 cities (Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad).
The campaign features radio spots that will build general awareness about the world environment day and the campaign itself and ask people to tune in and respond. Throughout the day there will be spots that air simple and day-to-day tips about measures that one can take to reduce our adverse impact on the environment. These spots will cover a range of concern areas like- Air pollution & high carbon emissions, energy efficiency, water conservation, reducing the use of non-biodegradable materials etc.
Along with the radio spots there will be an SMS-led contest where people will be asked to SMS their “green resolution” and one lucky winner gets a gift voucher worth 1000 everyday.
On the final day – the June 5, 2008, there will be an RJ-led contest where there is a cycle (environment-friendly gift) to be won every hour. The radio channel has tied up with a special Gift sponsor (TI cycles) for this.
Apart from the hourly contest, an on-ground promotion – a “Cyclathon” – will be on June 5, 2008. In this campaign, the RJ invites young people to join the Cyclathon to express their concern for the environment. The celebrity RJ will himself/herself be present at the venue to flag off the crowd and will conduct live outdoor broadcasts from the venue at all 6 cities.
In Delhi, Sify aims to get the Union Environment Minister flag off the Cyclathon, generating greater participation, press coverage and awareness for the cause.
As part of its internal campaign, both the Sify corporate website and the Intranet will sport a web banner to generate awareness. Besides, Sify has organised some exciting contests for associates and their children to mark the World Environment Day. The winners will get exciting eco-friendly prizes and be featured in the forthcoming issue of PrimeTime.
