Did media overplay swine flu panic?

Many people argue that the media has overplayed the swine flu panic. But others feel the TV channels have been performing their social responsibility.

The channels did their job decently well and, as a result, there is awareness about Swine flu among people. If the people now know how to insulate themselves from swine flu or what they should do if one is affected, the credit should go to the media.

Irrespective of whether the western media had a hidden agenda behind playing up the panic, for the Indian channels, A H1N1 seemed to have come as a saving grace to keep themselves occupied with when the country was devoid of high politics or scandals.

Media should play a more proactive role...and come out with the irregularities and inefficiency of health officials and health ministers

It is surely good that the news channels did keep the public aware as which state there were swine flue patients, if no one new people would keep going to that place and get infected

The media also helped in providing local contact numbers on what and how to do
it is the media which brings things to live otherwise a common man would not no what is really happening it is not in the case of swine flue only but all cases which are brought up by the media weither robbery/milatry/rape and all other matters of concern

I think media is one off the best

MEdia has done right job and discharged their duty to the society ast a large. Now at least media should do something so that the private hospital immediately join hands to control and give a impression to a citizen that if he infected solution is at a near hospital.

There can be no other opinion. Certainly the media in general were almost on the verge of creating panic all in the name of creating awareness among the public , especially the vernacular newspapers , which are mostly read by the common man . How many people die of accidents , Diabetes and out of bad habits like tobacco and Liquor which are more dangereous. Compared to that this is nothing . Of course this being new a awareness was neccesary . They should have made the people concerned not worried about this swine flu . The media was almost irresponsible on this front.
