Did media overplay swine flu panic?

Many people argue that the media has overplayed the swine flu panic. But others feel the TV channels have been performing their social responsibility.

The channels did their job decently well and, as a result, there is awareness about Swine flu among people. If the people now know how to insulate themselves from swine flu or what they should do if one is affected, the credit should go to the media.

Irrespective of whether the western media had a hidden agenda behind playing up the panic, for the Indian channels, A H1N1 seemed to have come as a saving grace to keep themselves occupied with when the country was devoid of high politics or scandals.

Citizens of India are much peaceful and continuing their regular lifestyle is because of the awareness brought by the media. I wonder how much our Govt. had involved in this! Thanks to media that brings things to light, though a few informations are hyped but is a better job than the Govt.

Media and TV channels did a wonderful job and created awareness that forced administration in Pune to close the city for two weeks and this helped to slow down the spread.
But still the connection between ARDS and swine flu H1N1 is to be discussed and we have seen that the combination of these two have caused Death. Hence it is vital to discuss the connection and find out what causes this connection.

media has very well portrait the current scenario of working of the government. government is doing nothing in case of swine flu and the only way through which people are aware about swine flu is through media.

I fully agree that the media particularly newspaper everyday carrying news of so many deaths. Only couple of newspaper publish the news of people cured from this virus. My view is the newspaper rather should educate the people about what this virus is, how it affects a person particularly those with diabitics or TB patients. Those who are healthy enough, the chances of effecting is nominally less. In fact private nursing home doctors' are playing big role in this. They are the people who are creating panic amongst the people and make big bucks in this.

The "American Flu"( being called H1N1,whereas other flu were called "asian flu" Spanish Flu"?) was a play up by the media to attract people to their channels.
