Did media overplay swine flu panic?

Many people argue that the media has overplayed the swine flu panic. But others feel the TV channels have been performing their social responsibility.

The channels did their job decently well and, as a result, there is awareness about Swine flu among people. If the people now know how to insulate themselves from swine flu or what they should do if one is affected, the credit should go to the media.

Irrespective of whether the western media had a hidden agenda behind playing up the panic, for the Indian channels, A H1N1 seemed to have come as a saving grace to keep themselves occupied with when the country was devoid of high politics or scandals.

Its true that media has created a fear in the ppl abt the flu. Especially tv channels has given 24 hr bulletin for this

YA.. I WILL GO WITH MEDIA ..I THINK MEDIA HAS DONE A EXELLENT JOB BECAUSE MANY OF INDIANS ARE STILL UNEDUCATED AND THEY DONT EVEN BOTHER ABOUT THE NEWS OF DISEASES THAT ARE COMMON NOW..
BUT BECAUSE OF MEDIA I THINK MORE THEN HALF OF THEM ARE KNOWING ABOUT IT AND THIS IS GOOD REMARK TO INDIA....GOVERNMENT IS STILL RUNNING PROG. FOR VILLAGERS TO
ALERT THEM ABOUT COMMON DISEASES BUT SOME OF THEM ARE STILL LEAST BOTHERED.. BUT IN THIS CASE IT IS NOT LIKE THIS..

People in India generally react to sensational news and thus daily listing of the swine flu epidemic data will go a long way in creating a sense of fear . This fear is the only weapon which will lead to caution and prevent the rampant spread of swine flu. So the media should play an active role in generating the need of the co-operation of the masses to curb the spread of swine flu. The only worry in our country is that a few take advantage of the panic and exploit for their own benefit like the sudden shoot up in the price of masks etc.

Media is doing wonderful work in Swine Flu awareness. Only people need to follow more precaution and government shoudl do more better.
