Be Fit this New Year!

Anupa  | 2008-12-29 12:56:46

The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, not to worry about the future, nor to anticipate troubles, but to live the present moment wisely and earnestly — The Buddha.

Let's unfold the 2009 fitness tips: ยท

Optimal Exercise focus ยท

Optimal Diet focus ยท

Optimal Stress Management ยท

Optimal Mental and Emotional Wellness

Optimal Exercise Focus — We have 168 hours/week, of which let us set aside 6 hours in all for the optimal exercise routine.

Empower yourselves by taking control of your time, body and routine. Create your own fitness routine that you have always enjoyed set to about 45 minutes a day. Let there be a lot of movement through this routine.

Keep yourself fit during rainy days!

The fitness goal you set this year is not based on your body image or accumulated guilt; it is just for the fun of the moment and to look back at the child in you.

Optimal Diet Focus — Our body is referred to as annamayakosha — we are made up of the food we eat. Food is what will perish only when man no longer exists. We just have to realise that we are being overweight and under nourished.

Physique and fitness!

When the Energy In > Energy Used it results in weight gain, when the Energy In = Energy Used it results in weight maintenance and when Energy In < Energy Used it results in weight loss.

Enjoy every meal that you eat; plan a balanced meal for the entire day. Don’t crave for foods, starve or miss your breakfast. These three will go against your fitness goals.

Optimal Stress Management — An optimal level of stress is required for us to function at our fullest potential. Our coping management style depends on the nature of the stress, timing of the event and the duration of our response.

Understanding of our roles at home and workplace will help us to plan our time and activities better. When we take charge of the day and live it to our satisfaction we feel relaxed at the end of the day.

A well balanced diet, regular exercise routine and effective self organization will help our body handle stress effectively.

Optimal Mental and Emotional Wellness — In sports psychology, the importance of mental and emotional wellness is emphasized. Our thought pattern determines our feelings (emotional and physical) resulting in our actions — this is a cyclic process.

The ‘Solution focused theory’ states that what we focus on grows. We have to learn to look at problems as springboards and not as potholes. Problems are only a set of circumstances.

Add an ounce of self confidence and courage to the purpose of your life on an every day basis. This will ensure that you grow stronger from within.

Change your thoughts and you change your world — Norman Vincent Peale
