Upset over incurring business losses, a shopkeeper killed his wife and two small daughters Friday before committing suicide at his flat in northeast Mumbai, police said.
The man was identified as Dinesh Lalchandra Jain, 28, and the victims included his 25-year-old wife Monica, four-year-old daughter Harsha and nine-month-old Koshika.
A relative, who had gone to meet the family in the morning, found no response when she knocked at the door of the Jain's home at Bhandup and later called the police, said senior police inspector Vilas Shinde of Bhandup Police Station.
The police broke open the door of the flat in Jalaram Park society to find the four lying dead.
While Jain had cut his wife's wrists, he had wrung his two daughters' necks and had then hung himself from the ceiling.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Jain had been worried about the losses in his business which drove him to take the extreme step, Shinde said.
