Gored by bull,7-year-old is fine after four surgeries

2009-11-17 15:30:00

Surviving a near-death experience after being gored by a bull, seven-year-old Vishnu Singh is happy to return home Tuesday after battling for life in a hospital for seven months and undergoing four surgeries.

Vishnu, a Class 2 student in the neighbouring Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh, was a miraculous case for doctors at the capital's Apollo hospital as he fought the battle of life after gored by a mad bull that damaged 70 percent of his liver and other body parts in April this year.

'It is the happiest day of my life as my son is back home after seven long months. Last few months were really tough as my sun was on the death bed fighting for his life. The most satisfactory part is that he is perfectly fine and normal,' Ravinder Kumar Singh, Vishnu's father, told IANS.

According to doctors, people with severe internal damage rarely survive and at Vishnu's tender age it is no less than a miracle.

'Vishnu had lost so much of blood when he was brought to the hospital. He had no pulse and has to be resuscitated. It was a complex case and four surgeries were performed to save him,' said Raja Joshi, senior consultant paediatrics, cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon.

According to Joshi, the boy is perfectly fine and will lead a normal life.

However, Vishnu's parents want him to take some rest before he joins school.

'It is already December and we don't want to put pressure on him to study. He will rejoin the school next academic session,' said Singh.
