Dalai Lama lands in Indian state claimed by China

The Dalai Lama arrived in northeast India on Sunday to visit a remote, high-altitude Tibetan monastery on a trip that has infuriated China, which claims the surrounding Himalayan region as its own.

Thousands of Buddhists lined the road between the helicopter pad where the Dalai Lama landed and the monastery, giving a rousing welcome to the Tibetan spiritual leader, an AFP reporter said.
