In picture: President Pratibha Patil applauds after awarding Manna Dey with the Dadasaheb Phalke award
It was an evening of legends and honours. President Pratibha Patil presented 90-year-old playback legend Manna Dey with the Dadasaheb Phalke award - the highest honour in Indian cinema - at the 55th National Film Awards held on October 21.
It was also an evening for fathers and daughters with Yash Chopra stepping up to receive the prize for his son Aditya and Sonam Kapoor accepting the award on behalf of dad Anil Kapoor.
Filmmaker Aditya Chopra's Chak De! India was named the best film in overall entertainment for 2007, while actor-producer Anil Kapoor was given the special jury award for his film Gandhi, My Father.
Other personalities who were present at the ceremony to receive the awards included Prakash Raj, who won the best actor award for his performance in Kanchivaram; Kannada actress Umashree, who won the best female actor award for her role in Gulabi Talkies; Prasoon Joshi, who bagged the best lyricist award for the song Maa from Taare Zameen Par; Shankar Mahadevan, who won best male playback singer for Maa; Shreya Ghoshal, who lifted the best female playback singer award for the song Ye ishq hai from Jab We Met; Shefali Shah, who walked away with best supporting actress for her performance in The Last Lear; and Sabu Cyril who received the award for best art direction for Om Shanti Om.
