Despite batting with a powerful script, its director Kodi Ramakrishna couldn't enliven the entertainment values of his latest film Ek Police, which released this week Satya Murthy (Prithvi) is a college lecturer and he is murdered by two rowdies, who have political backing. A five-member students' group (Dheeraj, his friends and Gayatri Rao) happen to witness the brutal murder. Jaya Chandra (Naga Babu) takes charge as new police officer. Aruna (Lakshana), another lecturer also fights for justice in the wake of her colleague's murder. However, Jaya Chandra too befriends with the baddies. He also resorts to kidnap of a student. Why an honest cop like him behaves like that? What is his modus operandi? The climax is treated with these threads in a different manner. Nagababu alone shoulders the responsibility of this film's run. With his stylish performance and mannerisms, he impresses one and all. All other artistes have come out with rigid performance with no ease at all. Lakshana the heroine opposite Nagababu looks gaudy. Gayatri Rao showed signs that she was not at all serious, providing a stage-like role. Dheeraj, Samrat and few more young guys couldn't do well and their amateurish job comes as a big disappointment to the audience. Jothi Rana's item song is good. In the selection of the villains for his film, director Kodi Ramakrishna seems to have faltered. In most scenes, the emotions of two warring groups – police and the villains – didn't match. The story, screenplay and direction of Kodi Ramakrishna looked clichéd. The director who made blockbusters like Bharath Bandh and Ankusam spoke eloquent about the police story and raised huge expectations about it. But, it just turned up into a regular masala flick treating the age-old police vs baddies theme. However, the music part (thanks to Koti) is impressive. Dialogues are good in parts. Comedy is not up to the mark. Production values are fine. It might appeal to sections in B and C centers, that too for Nagababu. It's longevity is ruled out. Verdict: Below Average |
