| MS Raju the hot-shot producer of Tollywood has made his debut as director with this film that is a remake of Kannada hit film Mungaru Male. However, MS Raju introduced some slight modifications to the story, which he claims is to bring Telugu nativity and to suit the audiences taste here. Raju shows his stamp mark in songs, cinematography and richness of the locations. Vaana is a decent love story, with its own pluses and minuses. Abhi (Vinay) falls for the charms of Nandini (Meera Chopra) in Hyderabad. One day he goes for a wedding with his mother to Anantagiri and he finds that Nandini is daughter of his mother's friend. He proposes to her but the twist is that, her wedding with Gowtham is taking place in two days! When she finally realizes how much Abhi loves her and she accepts his love, there is another twist. Vinay, the Bangalore based young man who made his debut in Tamil, has played the protagonist extremely well. But the dubbed voice for Vinay does not suit his body language. Meera Chopra has improved from her Bangaram days. Jayasudha's mother-role is commendable. The way how her characterization is made to react to the love-pangs of her son is superb. Naresh' performance as hero's father is good and he also contributes his share to the comedy department. Yesteryears heroine Seetha still looked glamorous, though she played mom to the heroine. Suman's dad role as Colonel Chowdary is routine but interesting. Dharmavarapu Subramanyam, Rajitha and MS Narayana have come out with simple but enjoyable comedy. Songs are well canned. The beautiful locations and the shooting in the original rain are effective and are major plus points to the film. Sekhar.V. Josephs deserves two cheers. Music by Kamalakar is fine. On the whole, Vaana has unconvincing storyline and lacks the mark of M S Raju's movies. Verdict: Average |
