| Lawrence has done it again with Style, a crisply made entertainer using dance competition as the central theme. What makes the film tick is the mix of sentiments, songs and dancing which has been worked out to perfection. The highlight of this peppy film is the on-screen chemistry between two of India’s finest choreographers who are in real life competitors. Prabhu Deva and Lawrence rocks and to add more mirth and flavour Chiranjeevi and Nagarjuna makes special appearances in an action scene. There is hardly any story - Ganesh (Prabudeva) the best dancer in town due to the machinations of his arch rival loses his legs. To get back at his enemies he enrolls Raghava (Lawrence) who is an errand boy who can shake a leg gracefully. Ganesh becomes Raghava’s mentor and guru in dancing. How Ganesh makes Raghava win the dance championship and gets his revenge on his nemesis Antony is what the film is all about. The basic inspiration of the championship is taken from the Hollywood dance movie Dance with Me local sentiments from Mithun Chakravarthy’s Disco Dancer Charmee is there just as passing love interest, Raja and Kamalinee Mukherjee have very little to do, but they make their presence. Mani Sharma’s music basically Latin and heavy numbers have been superbly choreographed and acted by Lawrence and Deva. Kabir Lal’s camera is fantastic as he has done the film in super 35, which means the viewer get the feel it is lifelike. Added to that, DI technology used for colour grading makes the film look rich. On the downside editor Venkatesh could have trimmed at least 10 minutes of the film especially post interval as the climax is a bit too long. Still Style is racy and entertaining. Lawrence and Prabhu Deva with no-holds-barred abandon hops, skips and jumps into the audience hearts. Verdict:- Rocking |
