Chatrapati works to a certain extent thanks to the tall handsome hunk Prabhas. He is macho and has a lumbering look about him that creates a strong screen presence. The only drawback is that he has to improve on his dancing.

The story is woven round mother-son sentiments which we have seen in umpteen films of the past like Deewar and the recent Tamil film Nanda directed by Bala. Raja Mouli has mixed various storylines and packaged it as an action packed entertainer.

Sivaji (Prabhas) and his brother (Shafi) who has a filial hatred towards him and mother (Bhanu Priya) were Telugus settled in Sri Lanka!!! They came back to India and are separated and the rest of the film is all about Sivaji’s search for his mom as he settles in Vizag. The refugees are bonded labourers of a local don Baji Rao (Narendra Jha). Soon Sivaji unites the refugees and takes on Rao and succeeds.

Technically the film is good especially the camera of Senthil, action scenes choreographed by Peter Haynes and the crisp editing of Kotagiri. The graphics are shoddy mainly the shark scene. The Venu Madhav take-off on Aparichitudu is excellent, though Prabhas-Shriya love angle has not been developed well.

The highlight of the film is Prabhas who has a tremendous screen presence which makes his super heroism credible to a certain extent. Sriya has a walk-in role and is there for the songs. Bhanu Priya is good and Narendra Jha impresses as a villain.

This tall tale is definitely time pass.

Verdict: Time-pass
