| By Moviebiz Venky is back in his favourite role in his new film Vasu as an honest-to goodness guy, a music teacher. But unlike the earlier Nuvve Naaku Nachavu which was rib-tickling and fun, Vasu is quite dragging. Vasu ( Venkatesh) is a music teacher who wants to make it as a singer much against the wishes of his father (Vijay Kumar) who wants him to be an IPS Officer. Adding to his father’s woes, Vasu falls for Deepthi (Bhumika Chawla), a family friend’s daughter who comes to stay with them. But every time Vasu tries to impress Deepthi it backfires, making him look like a joker. Vasu makes up with his father saying that he would devote all his energy to get an IPS, though secretly he pursues his music career. Vasu is called for the preliminary audition of a music talent search conducted by Sony music company. But on the big day Deepthi’s wedding is fixed to somebody else. Will Vasu manage to realize his ambition and love? Venky has lost a few kilos to look young in the film but looks pale. Bhumika Chawla is there for the song ‘n’dance. Director Karunakaran has tried to re-work his Tolliprema where career, love and affection to parents form the base of the story but in Vasu it has fallen flat! The only highlight of the film is the brilliant music of Harris Jayaraj. However Vasu lacks soul and style. Verdict: Stale |
