| Oops he did it again! Dhanush’s Devathaye Kandein is arguably the most inept movie in recent times. It spotlights him as a lovelorn uneducated boy who sells tea on a cycle who goes ga-ga over a modern city girl who dumps him when she meets an educated and more handsome guy! This sleep inducing story goes like this- Babu (Dhanush) bump into Uma (Sridevi) on the road and it is love at first sight for both!! Babu is an orphan who is illiterate and sells tea on the roads and he falls madly in love with Uma. She responds immediately and encourages him by singing duets and even confessing her love to him! The twist happens when Uma gets a viral fever and is admitted in hospital where her doctor (Kunal) also falls in love with her! Now both the families fix their marriage when our hero has gone to Sabarimala to pray for his sweetheart’s health. Uma is in a dilemma and while taking into account the pros and cons of both the guys, she chooses the rich doctor. Enters Babu who realizes that his ‘devathai’ has turned ‘rakshasi’ and decides to drag her to court for “Adam teasing”! His argument is that there should be a law for men who are harassed and taken-for-a-ride by women!!! And in the courtroom Babu and his high-profile lawyer (Nassar) is able to establish that Uma did really take him for a sucker ride. Then comes the final twist which forms the anti-climax. Bhoopthy Pandian, the debutant director has no clue about what he was trying to convey to the audience. All the characters are etched out in poor light and less said about the lead pair, the better! For a change, Deva’s lifted music is a blessing. The story, script, presentation is amateurish and the direction is incredibly lifeless and uninvolving. Verdict: Avoid
