Yes, it has been an excellent year and Saamy is the biggest hit of 2003. My distributors and producers and exhibitors are very happy and even with Kathal Sadugudu no one lost money.
Are you the superstar? The number one?
Please don’t put numbers to my achievements. I worked hard for this and I was rewarded. I believe that a star can only assure a good opening but the rest is left to the storywriter and director. According to me there is only
one superstar and that is Rajnikanth.
But Pitamagan was marketed as Vikram’s Pitamagan?
That picture needed heavy marketing to make it work at the box-office, as the distributors wanted an additional prop. As the director was too arty and the feel of the film was too morbid, we had to do an aggressive marketing technique. And thank God it worked.
Have you made up with Bala?
The issue has been settled. I have taken only 50 percent of my salary as the producer played dirty. The producer wanted Bala to settle me as his claim is that he advanced money to Bala on the first copy. I don’t want Bala to suffer monetary loses and so I have written off what is due to me.
Did you shake hands with Bala or give him a Jadoo Ki Jhappi (As in Sanjay Dutt’s “Munnabhai M.B.B.S”)?
(Bursts out laughing) No, at the producers council meeting called by Mr Vijaykanth he even refused to look at my eyes. And after the meeting he went away without acknowledging my presence!
So will 2004 be another eventful year for you?
