It has been about 22 months since Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu rocked the Box Office and wowed fans and critics alike.

The long wait is about to end and for all those fans and film buffs who were counting the days for Kamal’s Magnum Opus to hit the screens; they can actually count the days on their fingers now!

Dasavatharam will finally end the anxiety of anticipation and keep its long overdue date with fans on Friday the 13th of June.

Any Kamal film stirs up expectations and curiosity even among the non-fans; even though some seldom admit it! You only have to go back in time and think about some of Kamal’s biggest films since the media explosion of the 1990s and the pre-release hype they generated - Hey Ram, Indian, Thevar Magan, Aalavandhan, Virumaandi and add a ‘10X’ factor to the same expectation in case of Dasavatharam!

This film has surpassed all the hype and expectation that Kamal films have generated in the past. These expectations peaked, when the trailer was released. It instantly became one of the most watched videos on Youtube. The combined figure for all Dasavatharam trailers on Youtube is close to a staggering one million views. The grand audio launch and the music have added more momentum to the film.

As release day dawns the Dasavatharam buzz gets bigger. Fans and Tamil film buffs across the world have started speculating about the story and the ten avatars of Kamal in the movie.

We have seen some clear images and some fleeting glimpses in the trailer. But nobody has been able to put together the definitive list of the ‘Dasavatharam’ Kamal will play.

Kamal himself has said one of the unique aspects of the film will be that people may not even be able to spot all the 10 Kamalhaasans in this film. So we might actually have to wait till June 13 for the authentic list! That’s part of the suspense and the anticipation!

As for the plot the only clue has been provided in the Audio CD jacket but even that doesn’t give much away. The trailer suggests that the film might well be a racy thriller that spans different continents and centuries and a winner at the BO!

From a fan’s point of view the clear expectation is a film that will showcase Kamal’s talents as an actor and a great student of cinema who understands all the elements and nuances of film making.

Expect a film that will be a major step forward for Tamil Cinema that has already proven over the years that it is way ahead of the rest of the country. The KS Ravikumar factor should ensure a film that will be an out and out entertainer while the Ascar Ravichandran factor surely promises scale and magnitude!

So as we approach D(asavatharam) day the fans hope that all these ingredients and the unparalled hype come together to make this film not just a Blockbuster but a film that ensures our own Ulaganayagan get’s more global recognition!
