Shahid Kapoor teams up with Ayesha Takia and Nana Patekar in an eye-opening film on the shortcomings of schooling today. The publicity and monetary addiction of the current system is unraveled when English Teacher Rahul Prakash Udyavar (Shahid) joins Swaraswati Vidya Mandir School in the Mumbai Suburbs.
Though he immediately clicks with students and teachers alike, he's quick to realize there is something amiss in the school. He zeros in on the School Manager - Sharma (Saurabh Shukla), who makes many monetary obligations compulsory on parents in the name of extracurricular activities. He goes to the extent of punishing the students inhumanly when parents do not fulfill the new, unjustified demands of the school.
Rahul rallies the teachers against the atrocities of the school management. But their plans of reform are thwarted when the Principal of the school, Mr Sahay (Nana Patekar), a dedicated educationist of 32 years, supports the management's decision.
Soon things get out of hand. The school as part of its publicity campaign involves media planners in the extracurricular activities of the students, thereby encouraging them to take part in reality shows. This in turn increases stress levels of the youngsters, resulting in grim consequences.
Caught in a web of commercialization and internal rebellion, the school's situation becomes so explosive that it finally becomes a national issue. Paathshaala addresses the increasing unethical practices of our education system. Catch this riveting commentary on schooling this April 16.
