| The laugh's on us. Makante Achan operates on the belief that
having Sreenivasan and his son Vineeth playing on screen father and
son will work big time with the audiences. Unfortunately, director V.M Vinu has no story to say and is recycling all his old father- son relationship films and trying to cash in on Sreenivasan's 'Mr Clean' common man image, which makes it so dreary and boring. Viswanathan (Sreenivasan) is an honest and principled village officer. He lives happily with his family consisting of his wife Rema (Suhasini) and two children. He has only one aim in life to see that his son Manu (Vineeth Sreenivasan) become an engineer. However Manu has different ideas in life and wants to be a singer and a course in engineering is least of his priorities. But his strict disciplinarian father makes him join KCF an engineering entrance exam tutorial run by an ex- army officer Francis (Thilakan), where he whiles away his time and fails in the entrance exam. Viswanathan is not able to reconcile to the fact that his son will never be an engineer and has a showdown with him. The boy leaves home in a huff chasing his dreams to stand on his own feet. The trouble with the film is that it lacks a punch and is slow paced, predictable and has no twists or turns. All the characters in the film are the usual stereotypes like the fixer peon in the office played by Salim Kumar, the lecherous godman Jagathy, Thilakan the strict but boastful tutorial head, Suhasini as the devoted and loving wife. Sreenivasan has one single expression, and sleepwalks through the film, while Vineeth looks embarrassed when confronting his father onscreen. The sentimental climax is hogwash and looks contrived. The music is bad. On the whole there is nothing here to recommend. Verdict- Disappointing
