Award winning cinematographer and film director Shaji N. Karun’s who has done films like Piravi, Swahom and Vanaprastham is doing a Hindi film.
His next film is on Raja Ravi Varma, the royal artist. It will not be a mere biography of the artist, but will delve into his relationship with a model who inspired some of his best works. The film will be produced by Bobby Bedi of Mangal Pandey fame and will have Ajay Devgan in the lead as Raja Ravi Varma.
The search for an actor to play the coveted role of the model, Sugandhi is still on. Most of the film will be shot in Pune and on locations in Maharashtra as Ravi Varma did some of his most famous works in Mumbai, where he met the model whose face launched a series of iconic paintings.
Says Shaji: “My film will be on the turbulent phase of the artist's life”. The film will start rolling from April.
