Ono allows Mother to be used in film
Tuesday, 03 November , 2009, 11:00

Late singer John Lennon’s wife Yoko Ono has allowed filmmaker Sam Taylor-Wood to use the Beatles member’s famous solo track Mother in her new film Nowhere Boy.

The movie set to release on December 26th follows the adolescent years of the John Lennon singer when he was living in bad terms with his mother.

Lennon was raised by his aunt Mimi after his mom Julia bequeathed him at the age of five.

However, the relationship with his mother had improved over the years until she finally died in a car accident when he was just 16.

Lennon had first released the song being used in the film on his first solo album John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band in 1970.

The director, Sam Taylor-Wood, is ecstatic that Ono has permitted her to use the track.

"She's given the rights to (the song) Mother which she's never given the rights to before. She wouldn't have if she didn't like the film. That's really the stamp of approval," Sky News Online quoted her as saying.

She added: "The song Mother was essential for the end of the film. Yoko had never granted the rights before so it was nerve racking."

Taylor-Wood further revealed that both Ono and Lennon’s son Sean had seen the movie.

She said: "They both really loved it.”

The song Mother expresses Lennon’s grief of losing his mother twice.
