Los Angeles: Two films about Steve McQueen's life are in development, reflecting the current trend of using biographical books as the basis for silver-screen adaptations.
The screenplay about the legendary actor will be scripted from the biography Steve McQueen: Portrait of an American Rebel, by Marshall Terrill. The story starts with the actor's reform-school days and chronicles his ascent to leading-man status, his passion for racing, drugs and women, and his battle with cancer.
The actor's former publicist, producer David Foster, is also developing a film based on a memoir written by McQueen's first wife, Neile McQueen Toffel, titled My Husband, My Friend.
Another memoir-based film in the works is the story of Marianne Faithfull, who just released her 22nd album last week, Easy Come, Easy Go. The singer has agreed to turn her two memoirs, Faithfull from 1994, about being Mick Jagger's girlfriend in the 1960s, and Memories, Dreams and Reflections, depicting her later years of drug rehabilitation and a health crisis, into a film.
Supposedly the inspiration for the Stones songs, "You Can't Always Get What You Want," "Let's Spend the Night Together" and "Wild Horses," Faithfull says her life is a great story.
Also coming, a Judy Garland biography starring Anne Hathaway and the story of John Lennon as a young boy are being adapted to film by the Weinstein Company.
