Namitha is all smiles after her Telugu film Billa is a hit. Her hands are full with two Telugu and one Malayalam film. She is busy completing Jaganmohini which features her as a glamorous ghost. Sify.com caught up with her on the sets on the beach off the East Coast road in Chennai. A quick chat
What is your role in Jaganmohini?
I play a girl who gathers pearls and falls in love with the prince of many islands. But his family does not accept her and she is killed. Later she comes back as a ghost to stop his marriage with Nila, another princess. But she is a ghost in love, not an evil one!
Is this a remake?
Yes, but they have made some small changes.
Have you seen the original?
No because we wanted to do it our own way, keeping the base story intact.
Do you believe in ghosts?
Yes I do!
Tell us about your much talked about underwater scenes?
I will be doing underwater scenes being shot later in Mumbai soon. I have learnt scuba diving before but we will be getting some more training before the shoot. I love doing action scenes. They are more interesting than the same song and dance routine.
How tough were the dialogues?
Pretty tough because they are in ancient Tamil since it’s a period film. So it took me more time to prepare for that.
What is the star cast of the film?
Jyothilakshmi, the sister of Jayamalini from the original, is playing my mother. Vadivelu has a big comedy track. Narsimma Raja the original hero is playing father's role.
How excited are you about your Telugu career?
I am pretty excited with Deshdrohi on lines of Vyjayanthi IPS and is a cop story. I play the main cop character and there is a villain. Language is no barrier for me, as I am also doing a Malayalam film. We have already started shooting. I hope the film does well and I hope to do many more films in all languages
One of your relative has now entered Tamil cinema? Pl comment?
Yes Radhika Malhotra is a distant relative of mine. She is young and though I have helped her, she has to learn a lot about the industry.
