Tamil Nadu government announced the prestigious Kalaimamani awards for 70 personalities who have made a significant contribution to their respective fields in 2008.

Among them, the noted Kollywood celebrities include drummer Sivamani, Aishwarya Dhanush, actors Cheran, Bharath, Pasupathy, Nayanthara, Asin, Meera Jasmine, music director Harris Jayaraj and art director P.Krishnamurthy.

Some of the recipients of the award expressed their joy and excitement to Sify.com, after hearing the news.Excerpts

Aishwarya Dhanush: “I owe a lot to my guru Meenakshi Chittaranjan, my husband Dhanush who encouraged me to resume professional dancing, and my parents who stood with me. My son Yatra is my lucky charm.”

Asin: “I am extremely happy and thankful to the Tamilnadu government for this recognition and my fans who made me what I am today”.

Nayanthara: “It feels really great when you get awards. I am truly honoured and thank the Governmen for the encouragement they bestow on artsts like me who have along way to go. Saroja Devi: “ It is unbelievable. I never expect awards. But, every time I receive it, I consider being honoured for doing what I love. It is also wonderful to see so many young talents being recognised through this award”
