H Sridhar, the wizard of sound, passed away today morning (Dec 1) in
Chennai, after a massive heart attack. The audiographer was the
right-hand man of A.R Rahman, because he engineered the correct sound
equilibrium to the Mozart of Chennai's tunes.
It was Mani Ratnam who introduced him to Rahman and together the duo
has produced outstanding music. Take a look at some of their best of
picks- Roja, Gentleman, Kadhalan, Thiruda Thiruda, Bombay, Duet,
Mahanadi, Rangeela, Kuruthippunnal, Muthu, Indian, Minsaara Kanavu and
Iruvar
On most of A.R Rahman's audio covers, the top billing among
technicians would be H.Sridhar and his Media Artists. He was a
favourite of Mani Ratnam, K Balachandar, Bharathiraaja, Shankar,
Kamal Hassan, P C Sreeram, Priyadarsan, and Ramgopal Varma.
Among the audiographers in the country, Sridhar has won the maximum
number of National Awards for four of his films Mahanadi, Dil Se,
Kannathil Muthamittal, Lagaan.
Says noted director Priyadarsan: "He was the best sound engineer I have ever worked with, he pioneered
the DTS format in the country". Sridhar has also engineered and mixed
albums for international artists like George Harrison, John Neptune
Kaizan, Pandit Ravi Shankar, Zakir Hussain and others.
