Oscar winning documentary on climate change An Inconvenient Truth, which featured former US Vice-President Al Gore as a narrator and was based on his book, is to be staged as an opera.

Contactmusic.com reports that Italian composer Giorgio Battistelli has been commissioned to produce an opera on the film for the 2011 season at Milan's La Scala opera house.

Directed by Davis Guggenheim, the documentary premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and went on to become hugely popular. The movie won Oscars for best documentary feature and best original song.
