Surinder brings cheers and tears to Sacramento
SadaPunjab  | Thursday, 06 March , 2008, 11:13

Surinder Shinda has been in Sacramento lately and Punjabi singers in that region see his presence as both positive and negative. On one hand, his presence promises some good performances in the Sacramento region, something that every Punjabi living abroad misses. But on the other hand, his presence is going to make local singers run for their money.

If Surinder decides to stay in California for more than two months, upcoming singers like Rajesh Raju and Sukh are worried that they may be pushed aside. Most of the younger singers perform at birthday parties and marriages and rarely get their shots at fame on the big stage. They pursue music as a subsidiary source of income and work regular jobs to earn their living. Performing at parties and weddings deprives them of fame, as it is not considered very prestigious. When famous singers like Pammi Bai, Gurdas Mann and Harbhajan Mann perform in the country it adds to their woes and robs them of the little glitter that comes their way.

Shinda however, plans on spending most of his time relaxing with friends and dedicate some time to performing.
