Reuters  | Thursday, 01 June , 2006, 11:34

The Devil Wears Prada, a satire starring Meryl Streep as the editor of a woman's fashion magazine, will kick off the Los Angeles Film Festival on June 22, eight days before its theatrical release, organizer Film Independent said Tuesday.

More than 265 feature films and shorts will be presented during the 10-day festival, to be held primarily at venues in and around Westwood for the first time.

AXN Action Awards The June 30 Centerpiece Premiere will be "Quinceanera," an East Los Angeles-set saga that won the top drama awards at the Sundance Film Festival. Sony Pictures Classics will release the film in August.

"Little Miss Sunshine," starring Greg Kinnear and Steve Carell in the story of a family road trip and a preteen beauty pageant, will close the festival July 2. Fox Searchlight will release the Sundance acquisition this summer.

While most of the films will be presented in Westwood, the festival will screen six at the John Anson Ford Amphitheatre in Hollywood. That lineup includes such musically inflected films as the Sex Pistols documentary "The Filth and the Fury" and "Leonard Cohen I'm Your Man."

George Lucas, who is serving as the festival's guest director, has selected three films: Jean-Luc Godard's "Masculine Feminine," Akira Kurosawa's "The Seven Samurai" and Stanley Kubrick's "Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb."
