Cassini's Division took shape in 2001 when Sukanti Roy met Rahul at founding
bassist Shamik Chatterjee's house and the three decided to undertake the Cassini's
Division project together. John replaced founding bassist Shamik Chatterjee
in May 2002. And with Ritoban joining the Division as a full-time member
since March 2002 there has been no turning back for this quartet.
In the last few years that they have been together, the members of the band
have written a lot of original material that melds the influences of each member.
The result is a throbbing mix of alternative and mainstream rock.
On the gigging front, the band has been consolidating its live reputation. It
recently toured the hills of North Bengal rocking packed-to-capacity crowds
as part of the famous Darjeeling Carnival. Shows at prestigious venues in Calcutta
including Max Mueller Bhavan (Goethe Institute) and Alliance Francaise de Calcutta
have now placed them as the premier alternate-rock outfit in the region.
