The band started off 3 days before IIT saarang 2004 and hasn't looked back since.
Powder In The Ashtray (PITA) has been all about playing music, heavily influenced
by FUNK, ROCK, METAL, their influences are clearly visible to everyone who have
watched them perform allover Chennai, in Pondichery and Bangalore. Powder In
The Ashtray in terms of credits and laurels have been pretty successful, they
were placed 2nd runners up at IIT saarang 2004 with two individual awards. With
various shows at the Unwind Center, the popularity of the band has been steadily
growing. The band has gained considerable recognition after winning “MTV
Campus Rock Idols”, Chennai and has continued to turn heads and raise
quite a few eyebrows with every show or competition they play in. At KMC (Kilpauk
Medical College) the band was placed first with two individual awards and at
the "Underground" Contest at the Unwind Center they won two individual
awards. PITA bagged all individual awards and won the top spot in both DECIBLES
and POWER CHORD at Saarang 2005. With Siddharth Srinivasan leaving PITA, Bruce
Lee replaced him as the lead guitarist. This band has been heavily influenced
by many bands, including "Iron Maiden", "Red Hot Chili Peppers",
"Deep Purple", "Ozzy", "Incubus", "Queen",
"Europe", "Toto" and "Van Halen".
