New Delhi: Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty,
embroiled in a kissing row involving Hollywood star Richard
Gere, today approached the Supreme Court seeking a stay on the
order of a Rajasthan police official who had restrained her
from going abroad.
Appearing before a Bench comprising Chief Justice K G
Balakrishanan and Justice R V Raveendran, the counsel for the
actress contended the DSP of Alwar district had overstepped
his power in passing such an order.

After hearing the counsel, the Bench posted the matter
for further hearing on Friday.
Shetty's lawyer Ashok Grover contended a local court of
Alwar had simply directed the police to conduct a preliminary
inquiry into the complaint filed against her and Gere after
the kiss controversy.
By misusing his position and going beyond the order of
the court, the police officer has alerted all airport
authorities to restrain Shetty if she tries to go abroad,
Grover said.
Shilpa had earlier moved the apex Court seeking transfer
to a Mumbai court the criminal proceedings initiated against
her in connection with the kissing row.
The court had on May 15 had stayed the proceeding in
lower courts and issued notices to concerned parties.
In her petition, the actress had claimed the April 15
incident was wrongly projected by the media, resulting
in the filing of private complaints before the magistrates at
Jaipur, Mundawar and Ghaziabad by local lawyers.
The kissing incident during an AIDS awareness function
in the national capital last month had evoked strong protests
in several cities.
